When restaurants like KFC and MacDonald’s introduced free WiFi in South Africa for kids like me who dont have a rooter and are always on apps like tumblr, apps that consume a lot of data it helped out alot. I’m from a township in Limpopo restaurants that had free WiFi were about 24 km away this meant i had to travel then buy a meal that cost About R100 or more and if you think about it to spend that much amount including transport costs just to use free WiFi it’s an absolutely ridiculous idea. I then relocated to Gauteng after my senior year(matric) and here when I’m in the city either it be Pretoria or Johannesburg free WiFi is abundant just that most of them are daily limited to 250mb or less this means if i want to access unlimited WiFi i have to go to restaurants like Piatto, these restaurants don’t come cheap so if i have no money(which is most of the time) i usually stand outside or within range of the WiFi signal but nonetheless unlimited or limited at least i get to feed my brain with new information daily for free also this post your reading it was shared via free WiFi from KFC…i spent R7.90 on ice cream though so i guess in a sense it was not free.
Upon my daily surf of the internet i discover alot of stuff that are a bit eccentric which really impresses me like a few days ago when i got to know of places+faces.
Based on my opinion places+faces it’s a vlog founded in 2013 by Ciesay and Soulz from London who travels around the world videographing and photographing events, the youth and influencial people included skepta, ian connor, travis scott, asap mob etc its pretty Lit!
You’ve probably read an article similar to this one more than a100 times but there’s this quote that states
“People often say that motivation
doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing that’s why its recommended daily.”
On this planet we exist in there are so many crafts and none of them are meant for anyone only those who believe and do something about these crafts coquer then end up as if they were born to do them. It all comes back to this quote “no one is entitled to anything” everything on earth infact in the universe you can do. All these jobs, activities and so called talents that exist you can do them afterall “they were created by someone who is no smarter than you” steve job said it.i wanted to give you an example by someone famous or well known but i’ll just tell you about myself. I remember when i used to look at @deckstar_od‘s edits back in the day and i would always question myself how did he do it until i got the tools to do it but what amaze’s me is not just the edits but his different way of editting together with the photographs he shoots… so then i taught myself to edit but by the time i got good at it everyone had smartphones with quality mega pixels which meant they can shoot nice photographs and edit with the same tools as me. I then decided to edit differently from everyone and right now from some of my work you can consider me as a creative.
And guess what?
The very same guy who inspired me requested that i start writting for this blog because he saw my cool work. So far i photograph, edit images and blog also i know iam not as big or good as i think iam but everytime i write or edit or photograph its a learning curve i keep improving and someone out there is watching. The other day i set down with this other guy who said to me “xin’wani na xin’wani lexi uxi ndlaku hambi i xikolo kumbe u dj or wa cina etc loko kuri switaku hanyisa khomelela ka swona” translated in english whatever good your doing wether its school or you are a dj or dancer etc if you know you can make a living off it hold on to it and invest in it. My brother and sister you can do anything you want, i know it sounds clichè but it’s true, there is no person who is entitled to anything we all got the potential all you need to do is invest your time in it and be open to learning and always know if you share it there will always be someone who’s watching.
It’s throw back Thursday! And today’s throwback goes out to one of our authors here on new age history @deckstardj(instagram).Besides being an author/producer/creative…He’s also an aspiring photographer who captures amazing images using just his phone, you can sometimes mistake the images he captures for images taken via an advanced digital camera….He’s literally that good! Take a look at these samples of his photography ( dont mind the image quality);
RICKY RICK -BOSS ZONKE: https://youtu.be/gKvYTikVVpM
The Day Ricky rick dropped this music video for his single Boss Zonke I said that these are the best hip hop visuals by far in RSA even to date I still stand by my statement, Now let me explain why these visuals are the best. It was really not because of the content in the video but the concept. I mean I’ve seen so many concepts some greater than this one in South Africa but whoever came up with them had a great vision but not great visual ideas if we compare with this one. I mean you can see as you watch the video that it’s very simple yet very effective it’s just people (cool people) dancing in slow motion,
some singing/rapping along to the song then comes the dude in white wearing a pair of suede carvela loafers doing the taxi driver dance…eish 👌 it’s very simple yet very effective and so damn original. Of course the camera angles and distance also gives the video great quality but the faded filter, that slow motion and the scenes at the end showing RSA’s street culture leaders became the icing on the cake. https://youtu.be/gKvYTikVVpM
But Hey, that’s my opinion watch it and share me yours.
I had a bit of a love hate relationship with Anthony Fantano’s Youtube channel upon discovering it.
I’ve come to like and truly appreciate his opinion on music for many reasons. I was a little thrown off at first because on the first review I watched he didn’t care too much about a mixtape I really liked.
I’ve come to love The Needle drop (the name of the channel) because Anthony helps me understand artists a little more. If you’d like an opinion on rock, pop, electronic, metal, hip hop and experimental music be sure to check out his channel.
I’ve compiled some of his reviews below. Be sure to check them out
You’ve probably heard of him but Troy Von Scheibner is one of the coolest street magicians out there right now. His tv series (Troy) introduced me to him. From then on I was so amazed with the amount of surprises and awe this guy can bring to people to the point where I started to consider becoming a magician. Similar to Dynamo this guy can perfom magic literally from just anything but the things that attracted me to him were the way he dresses and his interest in comic books just like in one of the episodes where he takes powers from a comic book mutant (Electricks)
and then he….in fact just watch the stunt here
http://youtu.be/KOX_b7WccTc to see for yourself. I tried to search for full episodes of his series on youtube but I only found ones in Portuguese but here is a playlist of some of the stunts from the series http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLSfobYjyRoTAenijBqgYrjOrw8u1UZc-D or watch the full episodes in Portuguese below:
