Talent from limpopo two.

Date 30 March 2017.

It’s a beautiful Wednesday night, we at Joe’s Pub I’m sipping on castle lager and a performance by Mash is taking place right in front of my eyes….”damn if only I had a girl right next to me this would be a perfect setting”

During his performance  (mash performs this one song which sounds more like a fusion of gospel and R&B Bro me and my crew  went bananas! It was lit literally (lol not with fire but with disco lights 😅)…

and as we turn up one of my clique members pull through with this other thick mami yho yho yho! I almost died.

she was dressed in torn jeans, crop  top, and some trainers 👕👖👟

her face her body PERFECT!  She a 7 outta 10 well done William 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏.

Okay back to the more important stuff so I took my wine glass went to the Vip section where Mash was located I greeted the brother and his circle after that I requested to interview him also told him about the blog and everything then I was  refared to  his manager.

Man no lie this guy has one of the coolest managers ever.

im the type of person who like people who are understanding and reasonable this brother was all that we even had a good chat about my future ideas for CAVA THE COMBO (Google it).

So the brother allowed me to interview mash after a 30min good long convo read below:

describe what u do? e.g is it only music that you do

You wanna know what I do? Ok look I’m trying to start something as an artist and at the moment it doesn’t have a name yet , it’s maturing into something people haven’t discovered yet.

I’m trying to take Shangaan/Xitsonga music to the world .

I remember when I came to Gauteng  and all I saw was my people (Shangaan ) hiding who they really are “Tsonga” all I saw was people acting like zulu pantsulas some yizo yizo type of stuff!

So as a human  you adapt and I also adapted to that type of lifestyle and when I went back home I finessed on everybody by acting like a city boy and talking that zulu vernec.

But with time I had to just embrace myself so what I’m doing is very necessary mash is my name, it’s my surname that’s my father…and everything you hear here its all me , self engineered, written, composed, produced, sung.

I’m an all in one package. I don’t need anybodies input I feel God speaks to me directly same thing with situations I connect with them directly.

where you from?

RIP to my pop’s it’s been 3years since we lost him, he was a teacher both  parents  but my mom is still around so for them to be accepting of the  craft I’m doing it was hard because as a teacher you can’t be out there wanting other people’s children to be stable in life e.g  be a Dr, nurse etc but your child is none of those things you must lead by example.

For me it’s not about admiring or looking up to R Kelly it’s a calling…and one thing I know when I say goodbye to this earth and transcend to heaven people will remember me for bringing something different something unique.

what are your future plans?
To die  a legend. (Let’s take a 30sec moment of silence to honour that )

It’s to show everyone from my background “village” that where you come from doesn’t necessarily define you as long as you understand what you want together with  your  purpose.

how I’m doing this?  I already started a movement called “classy village kings and Queens” (check your Facebook).

So all I’m saying is everybody is classy it’s a mental state not material things.

I think from what I’ve accomplished thus far you can rate me higher than most.

I feel I’m living my dream right now as we speak as long as they understand that it’s possible they must celebrate that.

Also I’ve been thinking about acting  and venturing into reality TV I wanna show you we not just polygan we Tsongas are very talented

how good is your fanbase?
What I know Is a good following does exist for me because if  we talking Tsonga music I’m part of the top five dead or alive greatest! !

Also I won an award by munghanalonene fm  for best R&B/HIP HOP 2013  this is one of the reasons that define kuri people understand what I’m doing  there’s only one mash and they’ll be never be another.

my music is about  lessons I’m trying to teach.

If you wanna feel loved ill teach you love, heart broke I’ll comfort you and if it’s church you wanna go ill take you there! I don’t have a genre I do whatever at God’s request💪💪💪💪💪

for any one who doesn’t trust their dream   e.g if I want to be a presenter or an musician or actor let me say part of the entertainment biz but doubt themselves what advise u have for them?

People will always talk,  people will bring you down and  laugh at you.

You need to be patient and let God don’t rush this no matter how talented you are, rush it you will bump into the wrong people and hit the ground so hard it’ll be hard to get back up.

Believe in yourself and your craft

Where ever u sleeping I hope u have a mettresss

It’s a beautiful Monday isn’t it? if you don’t agree I guess the blues got you but don’t worry we also got you.

For anyone who doesn’t know the meaning of sleeping is let me elaborate

sleeping

To ignore, overlook, or to forget something. Used as a verb, to sleep on something. Overlooking something that is deemed good or tight.

“Yall can sleep on the Steelers. They finna take it all this year.” honestly as I typed this i was sleeping on alotta stuff e.g these afrikaans/Mexican/Chinese artists and some topics like religion and politics Ey we all have prefarence don’t blame me.
but I got a few artist and brands I feel yall won’t have to sleep on for long.
Sángo

this is a producer from the USA and damn bruh he already has more than 5 projects under his discography honestly this cat I put him in the  top 10 of best producers

You  know who put me on? Mr 1802.
Mr 1802

speaking of which Mr 1802 made the list again why? cause i appreciate art so much. I remember when I got to interview him the first time from right then we started linking up I don’t know might even hire this kid to photograph my launch and my upcoming party in july/August ….I’m sure homie has matured and  his photographer is just on a next level now and probably got paid a lot too . All the best to you Mr 1802.

KID NINO

I once had that mentality of not messing with stuff from around my home town from music to anything u can think of but ever since I started my brand mindset had to change we need to support one another to build an empire together e.g Indians and Asians look at the way they do business you’ll understand.

now this is a clothing brand I forgot the owner but I’m guessing he calls him self NINO it’s a brand from RSA/limpopo and honestly I like the way they market their stuff but I still don’t understand their vision honestly i don’t I feel I still need to be briefed anyway who ever is associated with the brand if yall reading this I wanna buy a crew neck  from yall.

Lincoln Long

man these guys keep repeating….but Bro respect this dude homie Is multi talented I wouldn’t even doubt if they told me his a fire fighter now.

well so far what I’ve seen him do;

producing

event management

lol even once called himself that_cameraGuy at the time he was doing a lot of photography

blogging

braaing

dj

dress

design

his also  a fan of Castle lager.

but I don’t know man lately homie been hiding under a cave I feel his about to suprise us homie might pull a Kanye or Drizzy on us where he comes back in that depressed look coz he might be working non stop and forget to clean himself.

All the best Lincoln.
Mabee

my brother from next door. homie raised me no lie this dude is on his production streek yho….He probably has more than 2000 projects in his laptop and he be telling me they’ll all get released that’s why I keep telling everybody the future is too bright it’ll all get better just wait on it just don’t sleep to much

SNIPER

I been telling yall I need these kids around me man why? they so aware of the latest trends and are very influential now sniper is from limpopo/elim/Waterval  he already has 3k likes on Facebook he even performed at the makhado show grounds what does he do?  I feel his more of a trapper than a rapper no lie I make music cause I saw the possibilities from this kid and his still in high school Bro ….age is just a number.

PROJEKT X

I’m not  really sure who host these events but I know Reeyah. well similar to project X the movie …at projekt x it also gets way too lit the mamie game is too much and the trapping too yall should visit next event is coming on 15th of April watch out its the most lit encounter

“Free My Niggas”

We caught up with “The OD Sniper,” Roy Machel for a quick interview after a recording session in the ever-busy downtown, Johannesburg.

For those who don’t know yet, Machel is a South African rapper born in Elim, Limpopo. He put out his first single titled “The Fall” early this year and has been showing enormous growth with each release.

What’s happening, man? It’s great to finally have a seat with you to learn more about you and your content-filled music

“Yeah yeah. Im glad to be here my g”

Briefly describe who Roy is.What do you do?

“Uhm…..Roy is a rapper,song writer”

What inspired you to do what you’re doing?

“I’ve alway found this hiphop culture fascinating from early age,the lifestyle, the attitude, the messages behind the bars and shit…I’ve always wanted people to hear my opion on things, and hiphop was the only thing i thought would get my truth out there. From an early age”

How have your experiences been in the industry?

“We still on the come up,we still in the kitchen cooking up. I’m learning as much as i can about the industry. Studio time, team meetings and stuff been hella nice. So I’m kinda prepared”

What are you currently working on?

“A whole lot of things, but you should be on the look out for my debut EP titled Heartbreak Weekend. You can expect that anytime this year”

What can people expect from your EP?

“The Truth. A story about change.”

How would you describe your music?

“Street poetry, the black truth. That might be a bit too much. But im just on my street pastor steez. I’m a trapstar, but i wouldn’t call my music trap. I just make music”

How do you differentiate your sound/music from the “present/commercial” daily sound?

“The sound is authentic, everything is real. Own concepts, flows… I’m not trying to make something just to appeal to the peaple, I’m doing it my way, the real way”

Who have you worked with previously, or even recently?

“Once worked on something with a childhood homie of couple years back. Currently its just myself and my producer, Deckstar who’s just changed his name to “Lincoln Long” (laughs). I’m trying to collaborate as little as possible right now because we still got a lot of ideas and moods to put out first”

Are you currently signed with any record label?

“Yeah. Im with OD”

What’s OD, for those who don’t know?

“OD is a record label, Ohne Dämpfer Music, which means ‘without a mute’ in english. Its a movement about to revolutionize the music scene”

What’s your ultimate goal in the industry?

“The throne abviously, but i also want to help myself and others jump out the system. Instead of doing whats expected from you,do what you expect from you. If you have a dream, pursue that no matter what your parents or friends will say”

What inspires you?

“Life. My life experiences, you know. The things I come across in this jungle”

What should people expect from you in a near/distant future?
“Geniune music, geniune music”

Most rappers or musicians believe they are what ‘the game’ needs, what do you think sets you apart?

“Like I said, I don’t just do it just to appeal to the people, I do it because it has to be done. It was written”

If there was one thing you would like people to remember you for, what would it be?

“That I did it my way”

Thank you very much for your time and all the best with the dream, man

“Thank you and thanks for the interview”

It’s the 31/12/2015 and today we bid farewell to 2015 and welcome 2016 but i couldn’t leave 2015 with nothing so me being me i set down with Mashamba Livhuwani to bless you with new age history’s final post for this year.
Who is Mashamba Livhuwani and what his about? you’ll have to read below to find out
Photographed by @_joewe_
Enjoy🙌;

Name:
Mashamba Livhuwani
Birth:
20 September 1993
origins:
born in a township in SOUTH AFRICA/Limpopo called Waterval somewhere between Makhado and Giyani.
Studies:
Mechatronics engineering at Tshwane University of Technology.

Growing up i had hobbies and admirations to fashion but there were obstacles such as financial issues but that didn’t phase my love for fashion and since following trends was acceptable to society i joined sbujwa where I’d wear colourful skinny jeans and masandazi together with a backpack this led me to join a dance group in Thohoyandou and my advantage to fit in was the fact that i could dance circles around them.
As time passed i started to realise that people out there in the world notice you more than in your hometown cause whenever your in your hometown once you start to establish something new they get this idea that you think your better than everyone and that for me became a reason to target a society outside my community. When i got to university in 2012 i told myself here is where I’ll discover myself and indeed that’s where my calling as a vintage rebel was unveiled.

I remember the first day at campus i saw these 2 guys dressed funny like kids in North America or on Tv holding a vinyl and i asked myself who are these guys? are they crazy or…but one thing for sure i loved the way they were unique and outstanding from everyone else, that’s how i want to be like whenever i dress so from there i became a vintage rebel and in those initial days whenever i dressed it seemed like I’m forcing it cause even now whenever i look at my throwback images i laugh

image

luckily one of the guys i was in a group with in high School was friends with those two guys actually they are neighbors in Thohoyandou anyway the guy introduced me to them one was Maitele Wawe though I’m not close with them now these guys i admire and Maitele would have a vintage outlet at his crib where we would go and stock in Pretoria.
Time went by and i met other vintage crews e.g Troublesome kids, Retro vintage kolektion owned by Bongani (Bongs) also Retro vintage kolektion was the first to make kids in Pretoria recognize vintage fashion, they had exclusive vintage items which you couldn’t find anywhere else they even hosted a fashion show where i got to meet owner’s of galxboy i even got introduced to other upcoming brands and yeah that’s how my journey of being a fashion icon started.

How i dress:
image

How i dress since 2012/2013 it was strictly vintage then 2014 the fashion stuff kind of went on the downside cause i was over hooked on weed, girls and alcohol but in late August 2014 i met this honey named Boitumelo Mokwana she’s my ex now but she was into fashion…man that girl revived me cause we used to compete whenever we dressed then later on she introduced me to guys like Norman Tips and “General” these guys are fashionistas and even to-date we still connected then 2015 i branched my vintage outfits to street formal like how I’m dressed now

image

image

image

decribed it’s classic dapper mixed with street style.

You know whenever i dress i just want to stand out it’s not me bragging or anything like that but i just want to stand out for you to see my outfit and applaude me if necessary also it’s about what do you want people to think of you when you’ve left Earth.
When i dress up it’s from monday to sunday in Pretoria but when I’m back home (Waterval) i only dress up when there’s an occasion cause you know how people are back home.
On my outfits I’m picky there’s certain shoes that i like

image

if i we’re to buy them people would think I’m crazy i remember last time my mom bought me a pair of adidas kicks not that i disliked them those kicks are fresh but in my vision there is no outfit to correspond with those kicks even to-date and when i do wear them that’s when i feel like wearing whatever, with everything i wear it has to match up i don’t want to go out looking like I’m colour blocking or something.
image

The outfits I’m feeling right now
ripped long line shirts
long jackets (Parka, trenchcoat)
blue ripped tight jeans
Nike roshe runs
palladium boots
and these

image

outfits I’m not feeling right now
Starter packs
Fake Cash time life clothing
petrol or milk
bucket hats
shorts with long white socks and a pair of chuck Taylors that’s so 2014.

Future plans:
I’m starting a brand titled rubbish in 2016 somewhere around February we gonna preview it.
Members are myself, kwanele DT (kwanza) who will deal with hiphop & Hector the dj/deephouse producer these guys will deal with media we even got samples of socks and caps etc and another thing is rubbish it’s not only fashion we are an entertainment hub cause we want to be independent when we make it….we don’t wanna depend on anyone we want to have in house resources.
image

Conclusion:
i might not be the greatest in fashion but rather than sitting my ass down and relying on society i need to stand up on my own two feet and chase my goals so i can become an idol just like Maitele, Shaun-the stylish, Stilo magolide, Okmalumkoolkat and Ricky Rick…these guys not that they are cults in fashion but they just know the type of texture/element they are looking for in cloth, they do know it. My love for fashion is soul connected somewhere somehow your soul must connect with what you want all and all what im trying to say is with fashion i wanna show my people in Waterval the importance of having a goal…2016 watch out!
